       “The Ambassadors' mission is to welcome and nurture members,
         be an advocate for the Chamber and the communities it serves
         and create an atmosphere of goodwill .”
                                                                                (Board of Directors, 2011)

Washington,  D.C. is a city of ambassadors and the MAHCC is in the thick of it.  For this reason,   we created our own "Diplomatic Corps,"  an informed group of motivated,  enthusiastic and articulate businessmen and women leaders who volunteer their time to provide a crucial link between the Chamber and its members,  and who strive also to ensure that members receive the maximum benefit from their investment.  Ambassadors are the backbone of our Chamber’s membership growth and retention program.

Ambassadors are in the center of business activity for the Chamber and the community.  They enjoy the rewards of making new contacts,  strengthening relationships and accessing a wealth of information and resources.  Their primary responsibilities are to:

  • Help in the retention of members by establishing periodic contact with them;
  • Encourage members to become actively involved in the governance of the Chamber,  whether it be serving on committees or as members of the Board of Directors;
  • Assist in the recruitment of new members;  and,
  • Ensure that members and guests attending events have an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

A crucial role for the Chamber is the nurturing of the next generation of business and community leaders. Therefore, a prospective Ambassadors must:

  • Be a Chamber member in good standing;
  • Possess a personable,  positive attitude;
  • Have excellent business reputation in the community;
  • Be knowledgeable of Chamber programs;  and,
  • Be able to invest a reasonable amount of time representing the Chamber by attending functions and staying in contact with members under his/her charge.  Ambassadors generally attend a minimum of five Chamber networking events and at least four Chamber event functions, including the annual procurement fair and the annual gala.

Responsibilities and Benefits of Being an Ambassador

The primary responsibilities of a Chamber Ambassador may include:

  • Monthly contact with an assigned number of long-term, new and "at risk" Chamber members;
  • Tracking and reporting contacts to Chamber staff each month using a Contact Record form;
  • Promoting participation and attendance at various Chamber events to assigned accounts;
  • Attending Chamber or Chapter meetings;
  • Attending Monthly Ambassador Meetings and the annual Ambassador' orientation and training meeting;
  • Attending Chamber ribbon cuttings and grand openings;
  • Attending Chamber news conferences;
  • Attending Chamber special events;
  • Assisting in the nomination of new members together with application;
  • Assisting the Chamber in various community image campaigns; and,
  • Assisting with membership drives – both new and retention.

Ambassadors benefit in many ways such as:

  • Membership in the Chamber's Ambassador's Club;
  • Conspicuous visibility at Chamber functions and on the Chamber website;
  • Eligibility for "Ambassadors of the Year" presented at the Chamber Annual Meeting;
  • Growth as a leader and being able to get to be better known in the business and civic communities; and,
  • Networking with a broad array of business professionals and establishing direct contact with decision-makers.

The Ambassador's Club is a networking and leads group as well as a civic volunteer group and social club. In many ways, the Club is a growth-generating and a powerful public service and public relations organization for our Chamber.

For more information on joining the Chamber Ambassadors, please contact your local Chapter Vice President or the Chamber at 240-686-0055.

And, by the way Chamber Ambassadors,

                       many thanks for your outstanding goodwill!
